City Seeks Funds for New Water Tank
The city of Grand Junction is seeking funds from the Iowa Department of Economic Development to construct an 80,000-gallon water tank. The city is asking the state to release federal funds under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.
The city has published a public notice in the Jefferson Bee indicating the project “will have no significant impact on the human environment.”
In a related matter, the Grand Junction Municipal Light and Water Board held a public hearing at is regular meeting on May 18 on a proposed bank loan for local matching funds for construction of the 80,000-gallon water tank. No comments were heard at the hearing.
EYE ON GJ SAYS: It’s not yet clear where this new water tank will be constructed or if its to supplement or replace the existing water tower on 11th Street. It may be that the new LDC Grand Junction ethanol plant north of town will be joining the city water system, and more storage capacity will be needed.
